Read the following story aloud.

THE GREEDY DOG

It was a warm (වෝම්) day in summer.

A kind butcher (බුච') gave a bone (බ'උන්) to a hungry dog. 

The animal was happy and wagged (වැග්ඩ්) his tail.

The dog ran quickly down the street.

He carried the bone in his mouth.

On the way home he had to cross a stream.

The dog looked (ලුක්ට්) over (අ'උව') the side of the bridge (බ්රිජ්).

In the water he saw another (අ'නද') dog.

The other dog had also a bone in his mouth.

He jumped into the water to fight the other dog.

The dog wanted to steal the other bone.

He thought that it was bigger than his own (අ'උන්).

The silly creature (ක්‍රීච') was nearly drowned (ඩ්‍රඋන්ඩ්).

He opened his mouth and lost his own bone.

It sank (සැංක්) to the bottom (බොට'ම්) of the stream.

The greedy dog went home very sad and wet.

Now he had no bone at all.
